About Me

I’m Joy Konitzer, I was born and raised in southern Wisconsin. Currently living in Milwaukee where I attended the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design (MIAD) for my BFA in Illustration. I am primarily focused on doing comics and anything that tells a story. I’m really into Dungeons and Dragons where I have played as a player and as someone who runs the game aka Game / Dungeon master.

Within my education I have consistently gotten the President’s list at MIAD all four years with a GPA of 3.80.

I am primarily a traditional artist, but have done a good amount of digital works as well. I like using graphite, inks, alcohol markers, and mixed media paper with a good amount of tooth. I very much enjoy projects that are telling a story with a lot of character interactions. I love trying to figure out quirks of different characters and trying to show those traits within my visual storytelling. I typically like to deal with topics of vulnerability and emotional topics within Fantasy or supernatural settings. I have been leaning more in with a grittier style with a lot more scratchy linework and rough inking. I have great understanding of pacing of when to slow down and when to speed it up within paneling a comic. This might be because I take a good amount of inspiration from the Mangaka, Hirohiko Araki. I would love to work for very story driven and fantastical projects involving comics.
